A transformer tank, which forms the main body of a distribution transformer, securely houses active parts such as the core and windings, along with the cooling/insulating oil, ensuring leak-tightness and protection against external factors. Its primary functions are to provide mechanical strength, guarantee tightness, and dissipate heat to the atmosphere for effective cooling.

Depending on cooling requirements, it is manufactured either in a compact design with corrugated side walls or equipped with additional radiator panels. It is typically fabricated from carbon steel and coated with specialized paints to ensure corrosion resistance. The tank is fitted with connection points for high- and low-voltage bushings, oil level and temperature indicators, Buchholz relay connections, and other auxiliary equipment.
